Like all supplements, as well as medication and foodstuffs, the quantity of Kombucha needed per person varies. But, the guidelines are simple.

If you have a chronic sickness then you should start with less than the following recommendations but end up drinking more if you can.

For a healthy person or someone who is sick but not chronic then follow these guidelines:

Starting off:

When you first begin to drink Kombucha tea you will want to drink a half glass (about 100ml or less) per day. You should drink this in the morning about 15 minutes before breakfast.

After a week:

If all is well, i.e. you have not been having any side effects like having to go to the toilet 4 times a day for a bowel movement etc, then it is time to increase your dose. Start taking another half glass in the evening just after your main meal.

After two weeks:

If everything is still going well then you can increase your dosage again. Try drinking a full wineglass full (about 150ml) at both times.

After three weeks:

You can now add a third glass of Kombucha to your diet – drink it at lunchtime or in the afternoon.

In general

As with any supplement, you should consider how your body is reacting to the tea. If there are any adverse effects then try cutting down on the quantities.

You may find, like I do, that you only need less than three glasses per day. I also know other people who drink a litre a day! Everyone is different.

So, just find the quantity that suits you.

When you begin drinking Kombucha

You will probably find that perspiration and bowel movements become smellier. This is only short-term and normal, don’t worry.

It is because toxins are being flushed out of your body. Drink more plain water each day, this will help.

Drink more water

It is a good idea to drink a lot of water as a general part of your diet, especially when you are taking a substance (Kombucha) that flushes toxins out of your body.

It is generally recommended that you drink about 2 Litres of water a day.

That sounds a lot to people but, If you think about it, it is only 4 ‘personal sized’ bottles that you get many of the popular fizzy drinks in. This is more than the amount of water health experts advise in general; but keep in mind – you’re transitioning!

Just drink four of these full of water every 24 hours.

You will find that it is not as difficult as it first appears.

Don’t Panic! – It’s just a ‘Healing Crisis’

When you first start to drink Kombucha, your health can appear to go ‘backwards’ instead of getting better.

The sickness you suffer from may become more acute. This is probably only a ‘healing crisis’ and it is common for the body to react like this.

Just cut back on the amount of Kombucha that you are drinking and build up a little more slowly.
